Google doesn’t use the keywords meta tag in web search
Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
This absolutely just made my day. I was checking out Matt Cutts’ blog and found a post where he says Google doesn’t use the “Keywords” meta tag anymore. When talking to a client about SEO, usually one of the first things they ask about is meta tags. Understandably, this is one of the first things you learn when researching SEO and it used to be very useful in increasing rankings about a decade ago. However, we can see how far search engines have come now that Google has decided to look over this information completely. I’ll continue to use the tag which helps with keyword density, but at least now I can give clients a definite answer about how much the “Keywords” meta tag will help with their rankings. Zero.
